Pondahan Restaurant (West Covina)

I'm lucky enough to have a colleague who, on a bad day, is easily 100x the chowhound that I am.

Today, I was treated to take-out from Pondahan, a Filipino restaurant in West Covina. At least that's what I am told.

In any event it was really quite good. I'm a pretty big newbie when it comes to Filipino food, but from what I had I must say this place puts out some pretty decent grub.

We had this deep fried pork leg and some beef dish; both were good. The pork was almost caramelized and made for a good counterbalance to my Lipitor addiction ...

But the star of the show had to be the kare kare. I've never had it before, but perhaps the best way to describe it would be to say it's the Filipino version of paella? It had oxtail and tripe and maybe one other meat that I couldn't discern. It was a bit oily (is this the way it's supposed to be?) but it did have a nice robust peanut-y flavor to it.

If anyone else has been, are there other dishes worthy trying here?
