My boyfriend and I went to Poke on E. 85th St. on Friday night, and had an excellent meal. We had been wanting to go for quite some time, but deliberately avoided it because of forewarned long waits. Well, wouldn't you know, we walked in and were seated right away.
We were also apprehensive about the forewarned terrible, nasty service. Well who woulda thunk it?! We very much enjoyed the pace and demeanor of our server.
Before going, I tried to research on Chow what to order. Unfortunately, there is not much written about Poke by my fellow hounds. I desperately pasted together reviews from Zagat, Yelp, Citysearch, and even Menupages. Which led us to order the following: Spicy Miso, Tuna Pizza, Trout Carparccio, Grilled Mussels, the Lobster Roll, the Truffle Roll, the Morning Glory Roll, and several pieces of Seared Scallop Sushi.
Everything, except the Lobster Roll, was extremely delicious and incredibly memorable, especially the Truffle Roll and the Seared Scallop Sushi (my boyfriend doesn't even like scallops, but he shared my love for Poke's). And considering how much we ordered, and how full we were, we were surprised by the small-ish bill.
I cannot wait to go back!
But before I do, I have two questions:
1. Why is this highly rated sushi joint so heavily ignored on Chowhound, and when it is mentioned, often times abused?
2. Anything else phenomenal on or off Poke's menu that I should include in our next order?
