Hi chowhounds

A couple of weekends ago I met a book agent who will be in town (S.D.) for the IACP conference in mid-April (International Association of Culinary Professionals), which will be held at the Marriott at the Marina. She is planning to take several of her clients to dinner and asked me for some local resto recommendations. (She also asked how the food was at the Marriott Marina). Her criteria are pretty simple, food needs to be respectable to good, within walking distance, or a short cab or trolley ride from the hotel, and quiet enough so that they can relax and engage in conversations. She did say that several of her clients will be presenters at the conference and the objective was to have an opportunity to get away from the conference environment so they could all chat and catch up with each other. I don't think she's necessarily looking for the top end, white-tablecloth, fine dining experience, nor would this probably be a group into the hardcore, ethnic chow down.

Frankly, I haven't been back in town long enough, nor have I spent all that much time exploring the waterfront and Gaslight areas to be confident in recommending some of the restaurants in that area. So anyone have any recommendations for a place serving good food, in an environment conducive to relaxing and conversation that is only a short distance from the Marriott Marina?

Secondly, I will be attending a lecture next Friday in Hillcrest with a friend and we're looking for someplace to have dinner before hand. Parallel 33 is on the list. Also considering Kazumi Sushi, Kensington Cafe. Open to other suggestions especially ethnic or small, neighborhood places.

Thanks for your help
