pleasant meal for too much $$$

That's what I had at Aujourd'hui last nite, altho the rest of our group of 4 said it was wonderful. It's always a nice experience to go to those kinds of places and be waited on by 4 people, who were great, fun and not stuffy at all (altho they left an app. sauce dish next to me the whole entree). But I felt like I should be oohing and ahing and I wasn't at all. Started with glasses of champagne and an amuse of lobster salad on a little cornbread thing. I had fried softshell crab with fresh corn, mushrooms and a champagne something sauce. One person had a romaine salad, had a taste of the lobster/crab ravioli but it tasted more of mushrooms, and the lobster bisque on corn w/ lobster timbale was the winner for apps. I went with black bass (I think, I thought it said sea or striped on the menu but they said black when it was served) w/ clams, some wilted greens and barley risotto. Tiny little clams, not too much taste to the fish, wasn't into the barley risotto, just kind of dull. Had a tiny taste of the prime ribeye that two people got and it seemed fine. One person got lobster navarin which I didn't taste.

I had pre-ordered a choc. souffle which was very nice, served with grand marnier creme anglaise and I think it was the winner for desserts. Tasted the apple spring rolls which were nice but they were served with a side of fluffy white stuff that we couldn't figure out and didn't remember the description. A couple other choc. desserts that I didn't taste rounded things out. It was relatively busy for a Sun. nite. With 2 glasses of red, one white, an espresso and a cap., it was $459 w/ tax. Not worth it IMHO, could have done 2.5 trips to Grotto for that.
