Chose this resaurant for a first time dine due to the fact most other quality places are closed for the winter and was not too impressed.
Although the restaurnat had a nice buzz, warm ambience, including a roaring wood fireplace, the rest of the experience was dull and overpriced. To offset the richness of the fireplace there was a 20 dollar halogen floor lamp in corner of the diningroom that I owned when I was in college....you know which one I am talking about.
Seeing that some on this board called it the best seafood in the hamptons we were excited to order and started with a SIXTEEN dollar lobster bisque...I had to as I thought it would be as outrageous as its pricetag....I was wrong, it was good at best. The scallop appetizer was fresh and tasty but the accompaniment was unidentifiable...some sort of sweet mush.
For dinner I got the local scallop special with cauliflower mash and although good, the presentation was similar to what one would expect in a mess hall..not even a sprig of parsley to offsetthe mass of white that appeared on my white plate. The 40 dollar seafood shepards pie was filled with lots of potatoes and not worth 40 dollars.
We did like the white choco cheesecake with caramelized apples.
The service was great if your were a regular, which we were not and don't expect to be in the forseeable future.
Going to Alison this Saturday for the first time,....hopefully this will be an added favorite to our list, as for Plaza Cafe, we are going to have to put it on the "other" list.
