This storefront advertises itself as Malasyian. I can't vouch for autheticity, but this would appear to be the only competition Peneng has in this cuisine catagory.
The decor is budget bistro, it has a bar and the waitstaff was pleasant (they handled a spilled drink at another table graciously, and patiently took my kids' orders). Patronage was mixed asian and anglo, and light on a Sunday at 1:30 p.m. (while Spring World next door was doing a land-office business).
I had something called char kuay teow, a noodle dish with a mild sausage and squid. They served my sons roti canal, a pancake with a spicy curry with chicken and potatoes. Essentially, comfort food served hot.
One maddening facet was the music: a horrid mix tape of snippets from mellow top-40 classics of the 70's.
