Having just spent a week in the New York area, doing a LOT of eating (many of the choices informed by hound thoughts), I've returned home to Modesto, and am reminded that wherever you go, the best of something is to be found.
I would put the fruit sorbets to be found in Modesto at Roseburg Square in league with the best I have had anywhere, period. These delights are made by the woman wo runs the shaved ice shack in said shopping center--all organic fruit--and they are amazing. I have a special fondness for the lime, but other citrus flavors are equally good and the berry is also fantastic. Everything about these sorbets is right--the balance of sweet and tart, the fruitiness, and preeminently, the texture, which is always perfectly smooth and velvety.
If you are in Modesto in warm weather, check it out (she closes during the cold months, but makes up for it by being open long hours in the warm ones). Roseburg Square is on Roseburg Ave. between College and McHenry Avenues.
