Pizza in Salem...Straight

Downtown Salem has a pizza joint that slightly outclasses Portland's Escape From New York, Bella Faccia, and maybe rivals Apizza Scholls. If you're craving New York style pizza in the Central Willamette Valley, visit Straight From New York on Liberty. The inside and the pizza itself will remind you of Escape, tasty but nothing fancy. The place is quite busy during lunchtime, but keep in mind that they close at 6 or 7. We've only had cheese pies. The sauce is fresh and the dough is made daily.

When you're there, strike up some coversation with a govt. bureaucrat/technocrat or some Willamette University hipster dufus.

Don't confuse this place with Lefty's. Apparently, the owners are connected in some way, but the pizza we had in Lefty's in South Salem was not nearly as good. I haven't tried the Lefty's in downtown. I hear it's a great place for live music.

Check out Straight from NY and support the capitol.
