Finally made it to Pio Pio on Northern Blvd. for takeout dinner last Friday. Thanks to all of you Chowhounders for recommending this gem.
We had chicken, both sweet and starchy plantains, red beans and french fries. All were fantastic-even the fries!
Only complaint was chicken skin was a bit salty for my mother-in-law. Just meant more for us. She shouldn't eat the skin any way LOL!
Please enlighten me regarding their sauces-so I am prepared for next time. I asked for extra sauce on the side and included were couple of cups filled with greenish hot sauce (sofrito based?). Is this the only chicken sauce offered? My budding Chowhound five year old found it alittle too spicy for his liking.
Did you find the Woodhaven outpost to be as good?
All in all was a terrific, inexpensive meal. Two adults and two kids full for about $ 20, and not with junk food.
Next time we will eat in and have some of the sangria that we spied up on the bar.
