Pillow Cafe in Fort Greene

I've been meaning to post something about this place for a while. Located on Myrtle between Adelphi and Clermont, Pillow Cafe has been open about a year and a half. The coffee is rich and flavorful and tastes freshly roasted. The iced coffee is strong, unlike the watery iced coffees you get so many places. They make wonderful sandwiches. One of my favorites is the goat cheese sandwich with pesto, sundried tomatoes and other goodies. The ingredients are quality, from the bread to the milk (which is Ronnybrook). Other things on the menu include salads, paninis and smoothies. I primarily get coffee and the occasional sandwich and find this place to be much better than other area cafes, especially Tillie's. The two women who own / run Pillow Cafe are really friendly and the prices are very reasonable ($1.75 for the iced coffee, $6.50 for the gigantic goat cheese sandwich). The space is clean and cute. They suffer, I think, from being on a strip of Myrtle that doesn't get a lot of traffic from folks looking for a great cup of coffee or a place to hang out and read. If you're in Fort Greene Park for the farmer's market or something, though, this is a great place to drop in and get breakfast pastries. And if you live in the neighborhood, definitely check them out for coffee or lunch. I really want these great people and their nice cafe to survive!
