Changes at Pilar (Napa)

My much beloved Pilar has closed, but the local scoop is that it's just until the building gets an earthquake retrofit. Then it will reopen as a partnership between Pilar Sanchez and Donna Scala (of Bistro Don Giovanni fame). No mention of what role Pilar's husband Didier will play. Rumor is that Pilar & Didier were uncomfortable with the front of the house schmoozing so vital for restaurants to suceed in Napa Valley. So, a partnership with front-of-the-house pro Donna Scala makes sense.

I adored Pilar for it's satisfying, creative food that was - by local standards - fairly reasonably priced. Plus, I appreciated Pilar's fun decor that paired designer tiles with tablecloths from Walmart. I can ony hope the new incarnation will be as great.
