Serious Pig at Marconda!!

Will Owen | Dec 5, 2005 11:57 PM

We got one of those 12v electric coolers for the car for EXACTLY this kind of thing: when we met a friend for brunch at the Farmer's Market yesterday, Marconda had their gigantic inch-thick pork steaks on sale for $2.18/lb. Now, I've never even seen pork steaks cut like this anywhere else, but I've been wanting to try cooking some, so I got two big bruisers that set me back all of $6.42. Cooked one tonight using my mom's old braising recipe, and will do something else with the other one tomorrow. I *WILL* post recipes on the recipe board...in the meantime, I reckon the reason I've never seen these is that it's a pet project of the butcher's: he told me he's been doing this, trying to encourage folks to buy them in hopes that they'd catch on. Well, I certainly hope it does, and in the meantime I'm gonna go back there and stock up!

They also had shoulder butt roasts for $1.89/lb., and they were beautiful. Bristol Farms-quality pork at Food 4 Less prices. Too bad it's such a schlep from Pasadena...
