I tried Golden Deli a few weeks ago on a Sunday. The food was delicious, but I didn't like that it was so crowded and felt very rushed by the masses of people waiting inside and outside the restaurant to eat. At that time, a friend told me about Pho Ga, a restaurant that is also in San Gabriel.
So I tried Pho Ga the other day. The thing that impressed me the most about this place is that the price was so low, the service was quick, the flavor of the soup was good and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. I like places with good food where I can sit and enjoy myself for a while.
I tried the pho ga (broth, noodles and chicken) plus a hot tea for 3.99 plus tax. The total was less than 5 dollars, and the pho was very good. I thought the broth could have been a tad more flavorful, but after adding in the garlic sauce (that came on the side), the herbs and sprouts, the jalapenos, a squeeze of lime and some hot sauce, it was the perfect lunch for a cold day. The price was unbeatable, too. I would definitely go back to try some of the other menu items.
They also sell fresh raw sugar cane juice, which I will try another time.
If you have other suggestions in the SGV for pho, please let me know. Thanks.
