My wife and I are going to Chinatown for dinner tonight. It seems like we go to the same places all the time: Vietnam Palace, Rangoon, Sang Kee. While I think they're great, I love branching out. Recently we've been to Indonesia, Penang, David's Mai Lai Wah, Ting Wong, Joe's Peking Duck, Lee How Fook and the new place on the northeast corner of 10th and Race (the name is eluding me).
I hate going to an Asian place and not knowing what their specialty is. I know that you can always ask but too often the response is "everything is good" or "try the sweet and sour chicken (or lo mein or whatever)". I know that a tested method is to order whatever natives seem to be ordering but I've found that this can cause significant confusion and can rack up a pretty high tab.
Given all of that, can anyone make a recommendation of something new to try in Chinatown? The more specific the better. I would love to see responses like "The ______ at _________ is my favorite."
Thanks in advance.
