Okay, ever since Phillips opened their 2nd Q joint in what was Leo's old space, I've had an urge to give them one more try. I think it has something to do with the divine smell of smoke every time I drive within two blocks of the place.
Tried their pork rib dinner again (with mixed sauce, half mild/half spicey.) The quality and texture of Phillips meat beats out my usual (Tasty-Q, a few blocks south.) However, my own preference is smokey, and the intense smoke flavor was lacking. I could handle that, but where they go completely wrong for me is the sauce. Not enough sweet/smokey/tomato something underneath the spice. It had almost a burnt flavor to it.
Now if I could get Phillips pork ribs smoked like Tasty-Q's, with sauce from the Rib Nest...
