I would have never thought of this delicious combination, Pepino con Chile (Cucumber w/ Chile) popsicle, but it is delightful and refreshing. Dying of thirst after gardening in the hot sun for a few hours, my boyfriend bought one of these from a paleta vender in Echo Park. It rocked my world. Cold, slightly spicy, mildly sweet...the perfect combination from a brilliant Mexican tradition of adding chile to many fruits.....ymmmmmmmm.
So go out and track down your local Paleta vender -- the brave folks who walk through many neighborhoods of Los Angeles pulling their cart and ringing their bell, selling popsicles and raspados/snowcones for 50cents. If you are having trouble finding one and they don't make a regular trek through your neighborhood, then go by almost any public school around 2:45pm and you are almost guaranteed to find at least one selling out front.
So it all makes me ponder this important seasonal question: What is the most interesting popsicle you have come across in LA?
