Just back from my normal Sat. morning breakfast at Pepe's. Arrive slightly before they open at 6 a.m. and get waived around to the back door by Wendy, (the only waitress) to come in and sit down and have coffee until they get the front doors open.
I am stuck on their fried polish sausage and eggs. Nicely blackened sausage with plenty of garlicy goodness along with perfectly done over medium eggs and breakfast potatoes that have a wonderful browned crust. The cherry on top of this sundae is the absolutely addictive chunky salsa they have which has strong garlic overtones with a nice heat and a perfect blend of chunked tomatoes, jalapeno's, onion and finely minced cilantro.
My only complaint is that somewhere along the way they changed their sourdough bread from this enormous sized one, more sour tasting one to a smaller and not as good brand. But for the rest of the package I can overlook this one small blemish on their record.
This is a funky - dive(y) - comfortable - where everybody knows your name - kind of place (after you have been there often enough).
I look forward to Saturday morning's.
