Yup... that's Patsy's Restaurant, W. 56th St. between Eighth Avenue and Broadway, not to be confused with any of the various Patsy's Pizzerias.
Another lovely meal there tonight. Astonishingly busy for a Sunday night, but we had no difficulty getting a table at 7 with only 40 minutes notice.
Bourbon at the bar while we waited, and my friend had a Punt e Mes with tonic.
Then we sat down and ordered. We had a lovely cold antipasto, including prosciutto, sopressata, mozarella, reggiano, basil and another meat. All fresh and amazingly pungent. We had a very nice '95 Ceretto Zonchera barolo for about $48.
My friend had a mouthwatering off-menu chicken scapariello, on the bone with sausage. It was studded with garlic and crispy fried bits of chicken, and the portion was so huge that some of it is residing in my fridge right now. I ate pork chops with vinegar peppers, one of my fave Italian-American dishes (and one that I've written about on these boards before)... the perfectly-done chops were laced with a slightly sweet gravy and tasty, extra-vinegary roasted peppers.
For dessert we had one of the house grappas with apricots. Ask the guy with the extra-thick glasses to recommend one of the grappas that he makes at home. They are fabulous.
