The passing of Picola Cucina

Nobody will care...or maybe only a handful. But the city's (okay, maybe the Upper West Side's) absolute best sandwich place - La Picola Cucina - closed its doors Sunday. I've posted several times about this place over the years, and always wondered why it wasn't a hallowed Chowhound site. Supposedly they are looking for new digs, so maybe they'll be back. They made the best grilled vegetables anywhere, made their sandwiches on delicious Italian country bread, were incredibly generous and wonderfully priced, and the two guys who worked in the tiny place made everything with LOVE.

I've been out of the UWS for a couple of years now, but this closing really hits me hard. P.C., along with Sal and Carmine's and the now vanished (and also vastly underrated) Desperado's kept me sane up there, and brought me back for a visit now and then.
