Heard about this project which was expanded into Philly last week asking consumers and purveyors to avoid chilean sea bass. Apparently, it is expected to be commerically extinct by 2005 because of unregulation and poachers (from high demand by US eaters). It is my favorite but I am giving it up now that I know. 60 restaurants have signed up so far - some very big names. They say the swordfish was "saved" with a similar campaign a couple of years back. Orange roughy was not as lucky. The hope is that the campaign will force regulations on the intense overfishing.
Just sharing this info with the other foodies here. Im no greenpeacer but I do have a respect for the origins of my meals.
