This Saturday the family and I were itching to get out and enjoy the day but nothing high impact.
So we drove from Santa Monica to Pasadena, Old Towne to be exact.
We walked along Colorado, window shopped, had some passable Ramen at NagaNaga, seems to be a new place. Very red and cartoonish decor. Menu is simple. Cheap-ish, might go back to try other things.
Winding our way back to the car we looped onto Green st to see what little shops were there.
Some good stuff hiding on those side streets.
The kis wanted something desserty so we can across this place called PappaRich, the king of buns(!$WTF?). It has a nice terrasse out front, minimal space inside. Smells of great coffee.
So they make buns and cookies. Girls had a red velvet cookie sandwich. They adored it, crunchy yet chewy red velvet cookies with white chocolate bits, the size of hockey pucks these things, nestled between 2 of those is a uber dense creamcheese icing that is just addicting. Around 3$ if i remember correctly.
Now the main attraction. The husband and I weren't really hungry but after being sung the praises of the bun, i had to see for myself.
It reminds me of a rather large chinese steam bun from the look and shape of it.
First a dark golden glaze of a sweet mocha nature is covering the bun, it's crunchy too!
The bun itself is light and airy but substantial, sweet.
Then you get to the center...
Butter. Salty, metly butter permeates the inner ring of the bun.
The mix of the sweet crunch, airyness of the dough and the liquid gold center is just perfection.
The seem new here, only known in Korea.
