I had a bit of an impromptu wedding in early December, at the Wine Country Farm in Dayton, OR. We live in Boston, but my family is all in the Portland area and his came down from Calgary & Vancouver, and we rented the entire B&B. The breakfasts at Wine Country Farm were fantastic, and the view over the vineyards is lovely. Joan, the owner, was very helpful with our wedding planning, and we had a gorgeous day for it -- 50 degrees, so we were able to stand on the porch outside the tasting room for the ceremony. The tasting room is a great spot for an event, and I highly recommend the place. Wine Country Catering did a lunch for 15, and it was outstanding: a delicate mushroom soup, a goat cheese & pear tart that everyone loved, and a pomegranate-dressed salad that is still fresh in my memory.
For dinner, all of us trouped over to The Painted Lady, where we had the tasting menu. It was truly fanastic. Standout dishes, in order of memory, were the lamb (best I've ever had, perfectly cooked, unbelievable flavor & texture), the cheese plate, and the red velvet cupcake's sent out gratis at the end of our meal. I had calvados that they carefully warmed, and a bright, richly roasted coffee. The service was perfect: attentive and professional but relaxed and warm. The setting is just right for the area, and the execution of detail was very nice -- it's a lovely old house, tastefully restored but with enough modern touches -- plumbing, lighting, muted colors -- that it supports and doesn't detract from the food and the dining experience. I'm sorry I can't give more food details, but it was a bit of a blur. Go way out of your way for The Painted Lady, and if you need to sleep over, the Wine Country Farm is 8 miles away. And they do a great wedding, should the need arise.
