I thought I'd post a couple different styles of padthai.
The left is sen chan pad pu, a fancy variation using the sen chan noodles.
Right is a classic, but the recipe does state that either sen chan or "regular" noodles can be used.
Both are on the dark side.
Although these aren't from the David Thompson Bible, the left is the cover of "Tasty Noodle Cookbook"!
