I've never heard of anyone else doing this, but when I was a kid (in the 60's) my Mom used to give us this for breakfast sometimes:
Take one large shredded wheat biscuit, put in cereal bowl. Run hot tap water over it, let soak just a few seconds, drain well. Meanwhile, brown a tablespoon or two of butter- let it get a nice dark brown. Sprinkle shredded wheat with a spoonful of sugar, pour browned butter over top. Serve in a pool of cold milk. Make sure you fish all the hardened butter pools off the top of the milk as you eat.
I used to love it, but haven't had it in ages. I'm not even sure the big shredded wheat is still available.
Has anyone else done this? Is this a PA Dutch thing or just something one of my ancestors came up with. I certainly inherited the 'butter is good' gene.
