Overtures last night

We went out with friends for a birthday dinner last evening. After hearing very mixed reviews about next we changed to Overtures.

The food was very good. We all had apps. The escargot was outstanding and the pate was excellent. I had the crab cake which was like the one served at Le Bec Fin...prepared with a mousse binding. It was ok.

The second course was caesar salad, also very good. For entrees we had rack of lamb, venison and veal chop. Everyone was very happy. It was interesting to note that the chef changed the sides (I presume a result of LaBans review) to roasted potatoes and veggies. A very welcome change. The desserts were really terrific. I had the apple tart with caramel ice cream...wow.

The service was superb. The dining room was lovely and elegant. A truly fine dining experience.

The only negative is that the prices have increased. Lamb was $33 and filet was $42. To be fair there were a number of entrees in the low $20s and below. They still have the $20 three course special but you have to ask for the menu. They also have the $50 special but it seems to be more limited in selection than the last time we visited.

All in all, a wonderful experience and we will return.
