Ouest-great but small portions

Really enjoyed dinner at Ouest. Thanks for all the recommendations on the board. The service was quite good. We booked at the last minute and got a 5:30 slot; then we called to cancel two days before when we realized we'd be late. They offered to extend the time to 6:00 so we could go. We still got a choice of tables, and we were not rushed. When my husband asked the waiter about the filet mignon and the short ribs, he recommended the ribs even tho that would potentially lower his tip. The food was good to great. Great included the bread (light and crispy), chickpea pancake and gravlax; parmesan soup with butternut squash agnoletti; creamed spinach (extremely yummy); short ribs and skate. Also, the stilton for dessert was outstanding. I get my cheese at Fairways and it could not compare to this. Ignore the chickpea glop served with the bread. The much-vaunted rabbit (mentioned in a few reviews) was enjoyable but lacking the deep flavor of the short ribs and the skate. The apple crisp dessert was nice, not great. But my quibble is that the appetizer portions, and the short rib dish were quite small. The parmesan soup should be described as a sauce because there was so little of it. It was barely splittable. (My husband and I like to share our dishes.) The bread was so great I left pretty full anyway. The stilton was a decent size and a party of four could split it as a prelude to a regular dessert. Also, the spinach was enough for 3 people as a side.
