Went to dinner at Sipan Nuevo Peruvian at 702 Amsterdam (94th).
What we got that was DELICIOUS:
whole avocado with mixed seafood and midly spicy avocado sauce
This was soooo good. The fish was kind of ceviche-like but not mushy or overly acidic like ceviche sometimes is
My mom had the Corvina Inca, a mild white fish that is pan fried over mashed yuca with asparagus. This was divine. I mean, she let me have a taste and I wanted it instead of what I got:
Swordfish over mashed potatoes. Skeweres of swordfish, laid out beautifully with greens and thick cuts of grilled sweet potato, with a pot of sauce that was mild and a bit mild--kind of like holandaise sauce. It was light, and good for those who want to eat on the healtier side, but nothing like the corvina, which probably had a ton of butter in the yuca.
For dessert, we had a somewhat dry vanilla and chocolate rolled cake with dulche de leche, with a passionfruit and pecan sorbet with the consistency of refridgerator frost. I don't think dessert is their specialty.
But they were really nice, and the restaurant was nowhere near full on a Sat. night, so I hope more people will go there.
Anyway, the avocado appetizer and the corvina entre were truly superb.
