On the way back from fishing today stopped in Peabody at O'Fado.
Kale & Linguica soup like I have never had. A light broth thickened with potato starch I think. Redolent of smokey linguica with a few delicate slices on the bottom. At the last minute, a fistful of nearly raw very finely diced kale tossed in. Very delicate and tasty.
The lightest bacalao fritters I have ever eaten. Yum.
And then I topped it off with Clams and pork and potatoes. Knock my socks off hearty and good. With leftovers aplenty for tomorrow.
My bud ordered filet mignon stuffed with cheese which was good, but exactly what it sounds like.
For wine we had a really excellent Monte Velho 2002 for a whopping $18. If you had told me it was a $60 (restaurant prices) bottle I would have believed you. Full bodied. Gutsy. Reminded me of a Super Tuscan for an 1/8 the price.
Whole meal including wine for two was $60 plus tip. I'd eat there again tomorrow.
Don't worry, they'll be there for a while. I figured out their modus operandi and confirmed with the waiter. They do most of their business as a function hall for weddings, communions, etc.
Thanks GG for the rec. I actually caught one blue fish but my wife has dibs.
