Oceana. Well it was a very nice room.
They started us with an aperitif (sp) of little bites which included an outrageously tasty artichoke soup with a smoky bacon flavoring added to it, so my expectations were soaring.
And then it was just ordinary.
I had the seared fois gras, which was good but not great (seared fois gras should ALWAYS be great!), and then had the Sable, (a fish similar to Black Cod, which is similar to Chilean Sea Bass), as an entree, it was extremely fresh and prepared nicely but not seasoned exceptionally well. Had there been salt on the table it would have been forgiveable but alas....
However for dessert I ordered a trio of ice cream and sorbets, and the pistachio ice cream was simply the best I've ever had anywhere. The apple and pear sorbets were outstanding too. So they are capable of great things, but it seems like it's hit or miss as to whether you'll get that or not.
Overall it was a nice dinner, the wine was good, but at $150 per person, I guess my anticipation was beyond what Oceana could deliver. I've heard their primo chef left, maybe I got there too late, maybe it's past its prime. Again it was nice, but not $150 per person nice.
Would like to hear from others before I write off going back there again.
