We went to Ocean Palace recently. I never had the pleasure of going to THE original Ocean Palace, but have heard alot about it. Also ate at CCK (now closed) several times. Atmosphere is more suited to takeout, we ate in. Now on to the food:
We sipped our tea and nibbled peanuts while we waited for our scallion pancakes, a special. Very light and delicious. Crepe-like. Not thick and chewy like I've had them at other places.
We had salted fish & chicken fried rice. I had the same dish recently at Big Wong's in Chinatown and this dish was superior. The fish was so fresh and light. Also, there were pieces of asparagus.
We had sauteed spinach with garlic. There were also bits of fresh ginger. Simple and fresh.
Next we had chunks of flounder fish with Chinese vegetables. Fish was cooked perfectly. Light and delicious. Not overbreaded. Very good.
We had another special, chicken and eggplant with black pepper sauce. Really good. Not overly spicy, every now and then you'd get a bite of black pepper.
Chef Peter Chan visited our table. He seems to enjoy reconnecting with past customers. So much history.
They also have brown rice for an additional charge. No beer & wine, liquor.
Can't wait to go back.
