Great Harvest located across the street from Rockridge Trader Joe’s, gives samples of all their bread, muffins and cookies. They encourage customers to sample as much as they would like. The samples are more than generous – whole slices of bread, 1/4 of a muffin or giant cookie.
There are some low carb, low fat and vegan baked goods, though only one or two of those items.
Each month brings different breads and during the month there is a schedule of which bread is made on which day.
The organic flour is ground at the store. There are zero additives or artificial ingredients
There is also house-made granola, pancake mixes and at lunch time they have sandwiches on the house-baked bread.
The limpia is a nice light rye with bits of orange peel that is lightly flavored with caraway seeds and anise.
I had a sample of the Woodstock bread which would make a great addition to any holiday bread basket. The dark bread chock full of nuts and raisins is almost like a fruitcake without the fruit
Ginger snaps are not what I usually look for but I liked them. These are soft cookies without a hot ginger bite. They are really pleasant.
The pannetone they make all year and is fine for an everyday version. It is not the rich Christmas versions such as Emporiio Rulli’s.
Other Holiday Items: Bourbon fruit cake, stolen, vegan ginger cookie, pumpkin coffee Cake, cranberry Scones
Before anyone gets trigger fingers after reading the next sentence, each Great Harvest is totally different. This post belongs on the SF board.
Looking on Yelp to see if there were some tips, I was shocked to find this is a national franchise … a HUGE national franchise.
Great Harvest Bread Co – the good franchise?
A tip I culled from yelp is they have a frequent buyer card.
The staff is pleasant. Add that to an interesting selection and good ingredients … what’s not to like?
