NYC native visiting SF for first time, HELP!!

Danny | Jan 16, 2003 04:08 PM

I will be in San Francisco area for Valentines Day weekend with a significant other and I want some recommendations for good eats. I was told by some fellow chowhounds to stay away from Chinatown and Fishermans wharf because they are tourist traps. I won't have access to a car and will rely on cabs/trolley cars. I enjoy all types of food, specifically Chinese (Cantonese/dim sum),seafood, Thai, Japanese, Italian and regional cuisine. By the way NYC is known for bagels, hot dogs, pastrami, and pizza. What is San Fran known for besides sourdough bread and dungeness crab? I am on somewhat of a budget, so nothing too fancy/expensive. Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.
