NYC Beer Report

Usually I post city-specific beer reports on that board, but this is really more about the beer than the location, so goes it. We had a very fortunate opportunity to stop in NYC for a bit of beer drinking on the way to Europe. Here's the rundown:

Blind Tiger (NYC): Okay, the separate post about the best beer bars is on point -- this place was the best beer bar we've been to in NYC. They have about 30 beers on tap, plus extensive bottle list (including an Alesmith Yulesmith!) We stuck with the taps because there were so many east coast beers that we don't see in SF. Here are my notes (be curious to learn more about any of them):

Six Point Bengali Tiger IPA: (gravity) - I remember really liking this one.
Stovers (sp?) Smooth Hopinator: (tap) - I think this was a hoppy amber. Great name. Not one of the highlights, but pretty good.
Chelsea 1000 Gyle Barleywine: (tap) - I remember this as the standout of the two barleywines we tried
Troubadour Obscura: (tap) Belgian stout - Excellent Belgian stout, lighter than others that I've tried. Really interesting beer.
Smuttynose IPA: (tap) - Loved this one. This began a run on every Smuttynose beer they had on tap.
Southern Tick Back Burner: (tap) barleywine - Also solid, but I think we liked the Chelsea a bit more.
Smuttynose Imperial Stout: (tap) - another fantastic beer from Smuttynose. I really look forward to trying some of their beers again.
Smuttynose Hamami: (tap) sour ale - see above re: Imperial Stout.

Ginger Man (NYC): This place is in mid-town, very upscale atmosphere but with really nice wooden bar and wooden booths. We had already had all of the above at the Blind Tiger plus drinks at a pre-wedding get together with friends that lasted a few hours, and it was about 2:00 a.m. when we arrived. Consequently, I can't tell you much about these, other than we enjoyed them at the time.

Legacy Hortimus Prime: (tap)
Captain Lawrence Imperial IPA: (tap)
