I am lucky enough to have a good quantity of already-shelled shagbark hickory nuts sitting in my fridge (like pecans but tastier, smaller, and more of a pain in the ass to shell). Looks like I've got approximately a cup's worth.
Ideas/Recommendations for how best to use them?
I want to make a sweet. I don't want to make pecan pie or anything tooth-achingly sweet like that.
I don't want to waste these hard-to-come-by nuts on a recipe that doesn't really make them shine. I have a nice nut cake recipe (made it before using walnuts, hazelnuts, and/or almonds); I'm sure that would be tasty but I'm concerned that it would just taste nutty, not particularly shagbark-hickory-nutty.
