Back in 1985, a friend and I visited New York before I lived here or knew much about the city. After seeing a play, we had dinner at a restaurant in the theatre district. I recall it was French, was in the middle of a street (not avenue) block, with steps down to the dining room. The restaurant was being run by a priest who'd inherited it from his brother (?), and the priest sat and chatted with us.
This same friend is making a return visit, and I thought it would be fun to see what had become of the place.
Does this ring any bells?
