In your opinion what are the best noodles in Hong Kong? I completely understand we are slightly comparing apples and oranges here but I'd love to hear your opinion!
Here's my suggestion:
Wing Lai Yuen (詠藜園): I have a thing for thicker noodles and I particularly love their spicy dan dan noodles (擔擔麵). Their noodles are chewy and their broth is meaty & flavorful (with a hint of peanut sauce). Also they use minimal MSG which is a big plus in my book. At $18 a bowl (add $10 for meat) I think this is a cheap, satisfying and tasty option.
Also another solid suggestion:
Nam Kee (南記): I tried this recently and their pork brisket noodles (小鍋豬腩肉米線) are surprisingly good. The star is really the pork brisket which is tasty and chewy. The noodles has good elasticity and the best part...there's a ton of it! The broth is slightly spicy and meaty which I liked as well. There are also bean sprouts to give it an added crunch. At $25 a bowl (it's a big one) it is quite a good deal. MSG seems minimal. On a cold day I think these noodles would really hit the spot.
Although there are good wonton noodle places (Mak's, Tasty etc) to me it's just not that satisfying for some reason. I also went to Kau Kee (九記) and their beef brisket noodles was tasty but way too much MSG. I love beef pho but I find most Vietnamese places (Lian, Nha Trang & Pearl) decent but not great.
So what are you suggestions for best noodles in Hong Kong?
