I finally put aside my misgivings, based on several dreadful experiences at the various incarnations of the Pasta Factory, and gave NOBO a try. New chef, new menu, new name - I was ready.
In this case, being open-minded was the wrong choice. I found a place to hang my coat though no effort was expended by the maître d. My party was seated next to a drafty door (a vestige of the hardware store that was once there?); some in my party quickly retrieved their coats. We waited a while to receive menus. Despite having a reservation for the time we arrived, we were advised that the kitchen would be closing in 15 minutes - no pressure though.
Food and drink orders were placed. Did the drinks emerge? They did not, until the meal that is.
Out of a party of six, one received his appetizer a good ten minutes before the other appetizers arrived. He felt compelled to wait, and his appetizer turned cold. I started off with soup to take the chill off. The server arrived with my soup saying "I hate carrying soup - it's the worst." I felt the need to apologize for not having volunteered to go into the kitchen to fetch my own. The soup itself was memorable only for its oiliness.
As an appetizer, I selected a half-order of lamb/squash ravioli. They were hard. A tough exterior is not a winning point in ravioli.
For my entre, I had the special - a veal chop. It was special, perhaps the worst chop I have ever encountered. I had a steak knife but I could not cut though the thing. It was inedible and I left more than half on my plate and I love veal chops. By the way, several in my party ordered steaks but were not given steak knives.
Redeeming features? I am still at a loss to come up with one.
