You don't see much Beijing style food in the United States. A handful of Beijing style places have opened up very recently in the San Gabriel Valley area outside Los Angeles, and you can find a little bit of Beijing food in the San Francisco Bay Area, and in Flushing, NY, but that's probably it. This is in contrast to Shanghai style food which is available in large quantities all over the place. I'm not sure if that means there just aren't that many Beijing transplants in the US as opposed to Shanghainese. One favorite Beijing specialty is the xian bing, a hockey puck of a pastry filled with meat on the inside. Imagine my surprise to find a beef xian bing at Xiong's Cafe, and as good as at Beijing Pie House in Monterey Park. Lots of other "northern" style goodies on the menu, too. Xiong's Cafe is at 9888 Bellaire Bl., #150 in Sterling Plaza. Also note excellent hand made noodles at Classic Kitchen in the same shopping center.
