Nio's Roti

Brooklyn Boy | Dec 5, 2003 08:50 AM

A few weekends back my wife and I finally tried the famous Nio's Roti. Pretty damn good, if I do say so. The skin was delicate and flavorful, with a strong taste of cumin. The filling was great, especially the potatoes, which, unlike that of many other roti shops, were actually cooked and seasoned. Another bonus of Nio's is that they have ample seating, though most of their business appears to be take-out. The selection of desserts was the largest I've seen, almost like having a bakery right there in the shop. The service, polite and efficient, rounded out a pleasant weekend lunch. For anyone interested in trying Nio's, it's located at 2702 Church Avenue, at the corner of Rogers. They also have locations in Mount Vernon and (of all places) Bay Town, Texas. The menu states that they have a breakfast truck on the corner of Nostrand and Newkirk, Monday through Saturday, 6AM-9:30AM, and a lunch truck in Manhattan, at the corner of Wall Street and Maiden Lane, Monday through Friday, from 10AM-3:30PM. Talk about ambitious!
