We will be in Roanoke, VA for one night. Does anyone have any good chow suggestions for us? We have two young children who eat out all the time and do fairly well in upscale restaurants, however we're probably looking for something more casual as we will be traveling. But please no chain restaurants or 'kid' restaurants. Our 3 year old likes calamari, xiao long bao, tacos al pastor,... not dinosaur chicken nuggets and smiley fries.
The last time we were there we ate at Carlos Brazilian, which we thought was good but not outstanding.
How's the Mexican food in Roanoke? The last time we were through I recall seeing a Mexican bakery/bodega that we didn't check out because it had closed for the day. I sensed the aura of potentially decent Mexican food in this area. What do you locals think?
What about the local cuisine? Are there any regional specialties? Where's the best place to try them?
