I happened to be in the Fenway area this Friday and decided to try Trattoria Toscana based on several positive reviews here. We got lucky with a table right away. The place was full except for an empty table for 4.
Started with the bruschetta app. Good rustic bread and a nice olive oil flavor. Tomatoes could have been riper, but still tasted fine.
I got the chicken tenders in a rose' sauce with mushrooms and olives. I really enjoyed this dish. Maybe I'm not very familiar with Northern Italian cooking (furthest north I've been is Florence), but this sauce just didn't strike me as Italian. I kept thinking it had Spanish or Mexican hints to it. Either way it was yummy. My lady got the grilled pork chops which had a spinach spread smeared on top. Nice smoky grill flavor on the meat.
We skipped dessert to go grab a beer afterwards, but I really enjoyed this place. I liked the fact that they had inexpensive house wine as an option. I love wine with my meal, but I'm not quite a wine snob, so an inexpensive Chianti or table wine is always a plus for me.
