There was discussion last week about Rocco's Gourmet Hoagies and today I opened the City Paper and saw that there is now one at 19th South of Market.
So, working in the area I mosied over today at 1pm complete with the "buy One Get One" coupon in the City Paper Ad. I got there at 1pm and they had just been open an hour or so. Today was opening day! It's in the building next to the Swiss Pastry Shop. Really large.
There was Rocco, the "original" who owns the first one in the Reading Terminal Market (BTW the coupon is good there too till May 8th). His Brother runs the one in the bottom of the Bellvue which, in my opinion, makes skimpier sandwiches.
Well, I had a Chicken Ala Rocco and it was DELISH! He says he'll try to stay open erarly evening. And will soon open for breakfast.
Today he did not have Roasted Peppers but that was cause it was opening day. I still think he can use a few more tables.
The big competition in that side of town is Primo's on Chestnut but you can't eat inside Primos and they often close early (as early as 1pm!) when they run out of Sarcone's Bread. Rocco said that is reason he doesn't use Sarcone's, he wants to satistify all his customers.
Well, those in the know about Roccos are now heading to the local honor box for a copy of today's City Paper. Something tells me that there will be other Chowhounds there for lunch next week. (should we identify ourselves . Charlie is in the neighborhood and it's a short hike for Matt.
