Most years, my husband and I celebrate my mid-August birthday at a Sonoma or Napa county restaurant (we live in San Francisco). Past years we've enjoyed meals at Don Giovanni and Tra Vigne -- as you can tell my tastes lean more toward Italy than France, but I'm open to any great, not super pricey restaurant. I don't really like "fussy food," but prefer simple preparations that highlight the flavors of ingredients, and a peaceful location is a plus.
This year I've been considering Cafe la Haye, General's Daughter, Roux, Martini House, and Farmhouse Inn. Would you recommend one of these, or suggest another favorite?
As an aside, I find myself judging these and other restaurants by their websites (or lack of). I'm a bit surprised that the Martini House website (www.martinihouse.com) redirects to Pat Kuleto's website. A current on-line menu would be nice. Roux's website is quite sophisticated but user-friendly (www.rouxrestaurant.com). I've always admired Chez Panisse's website (www.chezpanisse.com), where they post their current menus weekly, a nice touch.
Thanks in advance for any tips.
