I was in Montreal over the holidays and wanted to try something spicy. Was walking along Duluth on the plateau and stopped in at Nantha's Kitchen (on the corner of St. Laurent) which serves Malaysian and Indonesian fare.
The owner, Nantha is supposed to be something of a city celebrity and I was told that the food would be very good... However, it was awful, over-priced and should come with a warning!
Hot! I took two bites of the lamb curry and began sweating. I was in for a serious case of heartburn. I told Nantha that the food was way too spicy (I am of East Indian origin and am used to spicy food). His response was "Malaysians are used to eating hot food".
Well, I get that, but the spicing is used for flavour not burn all your taste buds in the first mouthful. All I can say is that if you choose to brave this establishment make sure you take a Zantac before you go. You may want to write off the next couple of days 'cause if it goes in that hot, then comin' out -- YIKES!!!
