I saw a note about this place in the Pioneer Press last week and stopped by to check it out. Golden Fig & River Chocolate Co is located at 790 Grand Avenue in St. Paul (one block East of Caffe Latte.) They specialize in foods raised in the Midwest--pasta from North Dakota, cheeses from Wisconsin, Minnesota wild rice, etc.
Pantry items: blueberry syrup, maple syrup, popcorn, applesauce, rhubarb jam, cranberry salsa, flavored vinegars, Pepin Heights cider, spice blends, Native Harvest maple butter, Daddy Sam's BBQ sauce, wild rice, gourmet marshmellows, honey, and all kinds of chocolate sauces and dips.
Fridge case: blueberries, cream, yogurt, cheese, smoked trout.
Also, heirloom tomatoes.
They are still setting up and building their stock; the refrigerated case for the local meats (chicken, pork, lamb, beef) they intend to have available hasn't yet arrived. The coffee bar they plan to have for fair trade coffee isn't up and running yet, etc. They don't have all of their chocolates in...
Most of the items I'd seen elsewhere, for instance, the spices and chocolates are familiar to those who've been to the St. Paul Farmers market, but some I hadn't seen before, for instance, the blueberry applesauce I bought. This will be a wonderful place to shop for Minnesotan-grown gifts. It will be interesting to see what else it grows into.
