Moonstruck

We were with friends, we wanted a place with good food and a quiet atmosphere so that we could talk, and we didn't mind a bit of a ride.

So we went to Moonstruck, on Oxford Ave in Northeast Philly.

We had a lovely meal, the prices were right, and conversation was easy.

This is a very attractive places, divided into small rooms. Years ago it was DiLullo's, a very upscale and expensive place. Now it is moderately priced Italian and Continental food.

I went for the $25.00 prix-fixe three-course dinner. This is available every evening. Starters were soup or choice of salad. I had the Caesar, which was pretty good. Entree choices were calves liver with bacon and onions, salmon, or chicken - I don't remember the preparation. I enjoyed the liver; thin slices, tender and fresh, accompanied by mashed potatoes and a generous helping of very good spinach.

For dessert I chose the apple tart (warm) with vanilla ice cream. The waitress had it divided in the kitchen (without my asking) because we had indicated that we would be sharing it.

Other menu choices sounded good, too. My husband ordered from the a la carte menu and thought everything was excellent. He had an eggplant appetizer that was delicious.

We go to Moonstruck periodically, usually when we are getting together with friends from the northern suburbs. Keep it in mind!
