We live in SF and frequently week-end in Monterey. Having just discovered this site, I went over the last few months and found the following tips for the best inexpensive/moderate restaurants. I'd really appreciate feed-back to edit the list & add places that are really good I may have missed. Are their problems with any of these restaurants? Important: I'd really love to know what are THE BEST dishes these restaurants make.
Tarpey's(nr. Lag.Seca)- fried calamari, early bird specials.
Passionfish - What are the best things they make?
Oriental Restaurant(Salinas)- duck, beef char siu (old fashioned booths)
Sang's (Salinas)- Prime beef on Wed.
El Palomar (Seaside) - Michoacan.(best choices?)
Red House(Pacific grove)- (best choices?)
Pacific's Edge (P.G), Bouchee', White House- for a splurge, are these the best expensive restaurants? Favorite dishes?
Garcia Taqueria (seaside) - tortas, chix burrito, soft tacos, carnitas.
Stokes (Mont.)- burgers, steak sand., tapas
Hartnell Bakery (Mont.)-pastries
Vietnamese Rest.(name? Seaside 1760 Fremont) sour shrimp soup.
Pho King (Seaside)-ban xeo - shrimp pork crepe (what else is good?).
Mom's Home Cooking (Seaside)- soulfood? (What's good?)
El Miguelina (Seaside) - pupusas, tamales, quesidillas
La Tortuga (Seaside)- Cuban sandwich.
For stopping off on the way:
Half Moon Bay - Priceton By the Sea (best dishes?)
Barbara's Fish Trap (HMB)- fried calamari, fish & chips.
Santa Cruz - Aldo's SC Yacht Harbor (favorite dishes?)

Of course this is not an exhaustive list. If I've missed your favorites, I'd love to know about them.
Anything inexpensive/moderate all ethnicities welcome.
