Modern Pastry - Beyond Cannoli

Have to post a brief note regarding Modern Pastry.

I think many folks hit the North End and have only Cannoli. All due respect to the taste-offs this past weekend; the best cannoli must be found.

So many of my friends say: "went to the North End and had a great Cannoli."

While Cannoli are tasty and I understand the quest for the best in that realm, particularly at Modern they have so many other truly amazing pastries that I seldom get the cannoli.

- Cassata whipped cream and riccotta with stregga-soaked sponge.
- Torrone and chocolate truffle bars the like of which I have seen (homemade) nowhere else.
- Densest, chocolatiest, nuttiest florentine cookies I have ever eaten.
- Riccota pie
- Lobster tail
- Sfogliatelle
- Hand made maripan fruit
- And more in the refrigerator case up front.

Why spend those calories on a simple cannoli when there are so many adventurous and really unique things at Modern.

To me it's like going to a chinese place and ordering lo mein, I love lo mein, but there is so much else out there!
