Mochi at Yuen Hop (Oakland Chinatown)

Melanie Wong | Jul 23, 2014 05:48 PM

At last week's chowdown at Nido in Oakland (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/982739), we were treated to an extra dessert. Felice said,

"The black sesame/peanut mochi are available at Yuen Hop on Webster. They are made and sold daily and can sometimes be sold out by 2pm or earlier. You can find them near the cash register and if you don't see them just ask if they are sold out that day. I have also seen them at other stores in Chinatown but did not note the names of those stores."

Before this week's chowlunch in Chinatown, I made a beeline to Yuen Hop (824 Webster St.) to get a pack to take home. A package of seven pieces is the princely sum of $2.50. Only black mochi&peanut filling this day, I didn't see any of the red bean, lotus seed, or coconut ones that appear sometimes too.

Have 'hounds spotted these at other shops?
