Minamoto Kitchoan

You must check out a Japanese confectioner called Minamoto Kitchoan. It's in the big new Mitsuwa Marketplace on Western Avenue at 216th Street in Torrance, (310) 782-0335, between the market proper and the generally B-plus mostly-Japanese food court. It is a very high-end, very excellent collection of beautifully presented sweets, many of them in exquisite Japanese paper packages. Most of them are bite-sized, and they go for a couple bucks each. So you're not going to feed your face with them. But that's okay, because two or three of them will do fine. Most of the signs are not in English and the store clerk I dealt with didn't speak English either, but if you look on the countertop they have a fancy bilingual brochure.
